Garland General Election 2021

There is a list of the candidates running for mayor, city council and gisd board. There is a link to that list on our website. Ideally, voters would have been equipped with all the relevant information necessary to make their decisions, but that seems to be extremely difficult for the average voter.

The percentage of registered voters showing up at the polls will be between 5 and 8% on Saturday, May 1, is there any effort at all being made to combat voter apathy? Let’s have a brainstorming session on how to wake-up our citizens and get them to the polls. Maybe some small tax break, or an amazon discount, free movie passes, a “responsible” citizen badge etc.

The good old boys’ system is just not coming up with anything to motivate voters. Most amusing was the garland chamber of commerce’s candidate forum that took place on April 14. It took place at 7:30 A.M. by zoom. Who decided on that time, on a work/school day? Those few who managed to work it into their schedules had to pay for the privilege! How badly could anyone possibly want to get to know the candidates? Nonmembers of the chamber were asked to pay $15 and members only $10. Get out and vote on May 1st!

Voters who make the effort to visit the City of Garland website will be able to find a bit more information on the candidates. https://www.garlandtx.gov
