Garland PD Officer Recognized for Outstanding Service

Altrusa International of Richardson held their 16th Annual Outstanding Women of Today Awards on November 1st at the Renaissance Hotel. Our Garland contingent was very proud to cheer for Officer Wendy Sheriff who serves as Community Relations Homeless and Mental Health Liaison. Officer Sheriff was selected as the winner of the Outstanding Women of Today award among the nominees in her category.

Officer Sheriff works diligently and compassionately to serve the homeless community in Garland by connecting them with resources that will get them off the streets. She has explained that the homeless community can be divided into 2 distinct categories. There are those who are homeless by circumstances and there are those who are homeless by choice. There are many charitable organizations that can assist those unfortunate who are homeless by circumstance. The most challenging and sometimes frustrating part of her job is dealing with those who are homeless by choice. In all cases she works with every individual and attempts to connect him or her with family or other avenues of care and support. Officer Wendy Sheriff is truly an outstanding woman of today and is well deserving of that award.
