Sazon Mexican Home Cooking

3035 S. Shiloh Rd.
Garland, TX 75041

In late December the owner staged a five course gourmet meal to celebrate the opening of his new bar and liquor license. The linens, the music and the wait staff made the excellently prepared five courses that much more enjoyable. The first three courses were a seafood crepe, quail and watercress salad. Then the palate refresher, which strongly resembled a tiny frozen margarita. The fourth course was the entree, and we were presented with three options. We could choose lamb, steak or fish. I chose the lamb, served with couscous, fresh green vegetables and a lamb gravy. Beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyed. A member of our party who had ordered the steak, said it was the best he had ever eaten. Our fifth and final course was dessert. It was a very excellent creme brulee, and our party of four consumed every bite. Followed by cups of mexican coffee, we felt we had been treated to a special feast in a five star setting, not a little restaurant in Garland, Texas.

Folks, this is not Mexican home cooking unless your Mexican home has a professional chef in the kitchen. Although Gregorio De Loa does a wonderful job with Mexican food, his skills and compass various cuisines. He welcomes the challenge to excellently create any dish we desire. His preparation and presentation far exceed anything you would find in an average restaurant. He has decades of experience in high end catering and continues to cater formal and informal events in addition to serving guests in his restaurant. When asked why he opened this restaurant, he replied: “Because I like to see the faces of my customers when they eat my food”.

Wine had flowed freely throughout the evening, with wait staff waiting to refill our glasses. The music was perfect for the occasion, and the four of us decided we had to plan another reason to repeat the experience. We are now looking forward to a similar celebration on Valentine’s weekend. Sazon will be showing off the chef’s amazing skills with a special feast on Saturday, February 13, 2021.
