Hidden Gem Glistens on Shiloh
After preparing food at the Dallas Petroleum Club for 20 years and applying his food wizardry in the catering business for many more years, Raphael de Loa has opened his own restaurant in Garland. He’s a Garland resident and had hoped to open his restaurant in Downtown Garland, but was turned away by the rental agent representing the space at Main & Seventh that is now the Fish & Tails Oyster Bar.
Having catered events for Governor Rick Perry, Ross Perot and hundreds of other prominent folks, Raphael de Loa is now available to please your palette, no matter how selective it may be. The Garland space Raphael finally located for both his catering business and restaurant is located at 3035 Shiloh Road (Intersection of Shiloh and Kingsley Rd.), an unlikely location in an industrial area. His restaurant, Sazón Mexican Home-cooking, occupies space in what was a vocational training school.
Sazón is an tastefully appointed dining room, with a seating capacity for about 50-60 guests. Entrees such as coconut crusted bass with a mango drizzle, shrimp scampi, ribeye and sirloin steaks, and several Mexican dishes are prepared Jalisco style, and skillfully presented by Rafael. Exemplary service by Roberto, received his professional training in Puerto Vallarta, makes Sazón a totally satisfying dining experience.
Raphael de Loa emphasizes that everything is prepared from scratch on the premises and made fresh daily. Among the desserts are Italian cream cake, tres leches cake, key lime pie, creme brulée, and several other selections. A license to serve beer and wine has been applied for, but until it is issued, you are encouraged to BYOB.
The Sunday Brunch at Sazón has become very popular, and there is usually an overflow crowd, so plan to get there early. Doors open at 10 a.m. on Sunday and the restaurant closes at 4 p.m.. Sazón is closed Mondays and opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
