Garland SAC and VTG Site Planning Underway

The Senior Activity Center and the adjacent Veterans Tribute Garden exist at Avenue A and Avenue B at Sixth Street no longer. There’s just a bit of rubble left of the SAC, and the VTG has been dismantled, and its elements carefully stored away. An Architectural Firm has been retained to create a site plan involving reconstruction of the building and the garden.

During a meeting on February 23, ideas for the new activity center were presented by the architectural firm, and those attending were asked to vote on various proposed elements, such as fountains, bocci courts, etc. By the end of the meeting the Veterans Tribute Garden was being referred to as the “Heroes Plaza, and was including a tribute to our first responders. The possibility of that tribute area facing Avenue A, and relating to the new square was igniting excitement. With the first fire station just across the street, and the new public restrooms just alongside on the way to the square, it seemed like a great idea.  We’re eager to see what will evolve from that meeting.
