Five DARTable Things to Do this Summer
Sometimes you just need to break from the day-to-day and enjoy fun times with friends or family. Not sure what to do? Here are a few DARTable suggestions.
Paint a work of art in Downtown Carrollton
Looking for an artistic outing? Paint and laugh with friends at Painting with Influence (paintingwithinfluence.com) in downtown Carrollton. This family-owned art studio hosts summer weekday classes and other special events. They provide the art supplies and you bring your own beverages and snacks. Get there by riding DART’s Green Line to Downtown Carrollton Station.
Shop and dine in the Bishop Arts District
Located in the heart of North Oak Cliff, the Bishop Arts District (bishopartsdistrict.com) is the hottest neighborhood in town for indie boutiques, offbeat galleries, funky homewares, and fine and casual dining. Before planning your day there, check the district’s online calendar for special events like wine walks and festivals. The best way to get there is on the Dallas Streetcar from Union Station.
Glide across the ice at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Farmers Branch
Remember what it was like to skate as a child? Recapture that youthful feeling at the Dr Pepper StarCenter (nhl.com/stars/starcenters), an ice skating rink near Farmers Branch Station. Public skating is available throughout the week and they offer group pricing. If you’ve never skated before, you can hang on to the outer wall or use props to maintain balance at select times during public skating sessions.
Enjoy a night of theater at the Eisemann Center
If you are seeking a more cultural experience, the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts (eisemanncenter.com) in Richardson is a great option. From Broadway musicals to lively concerts to humorous plays, this theater presents over 450 events a year. Take the Red Line to Galatyn Park Station and you’re there.
There is no better way to spend an active afternoon than at Klyde Warren Park (klydewarrenpark.org). This outdoor oasis in Downtown Dallas is within blocks of the St. Paul and Pearl/Arts District stations, or right along the M-Line Trolley. Be sure and check their calendar, because they hold a lot of free programming, including dance classes, yoga, Tai Chi, meditation and more.
