Fun Browsing at Frocksy
Historic Downtown Garland has a new boutique with an historic theme. Frocksy, a vintage clothings boutique, recently opened at 510 Main Street, just across from the old town square. Shop owners Tracy Claybrook and Felicia Dunnican moved their boutique to Garland from Deep Ellum, in Dallas. Located at their previous location for five years, they operated a business that was recognized as the “Best Vintage Shop in DFW”. We were told that most of their inventory dates back to the 80’s and earlier. Those who can’t get to the store can find easy shopping on their website. We found St. John knits, Diane Von Furstenburg jersey knits, cocktail and formal dresses, shoes, hats and lots of jewelry to please every taste. So far the racks are filled with smaller sizes, but we were told by Dunnican that they have plenty of larger sizes in their warehouse from designers like Carole Little and Bob Mackie. They should be arriving soon, and we will be back. We chose Frocksy as the location for a monthly meeting, and Tracy Claybrook was our very gracious hostess for the evening. One of the guests asked her how she was able to maintain such a perfect, petite figure. She said it was all about discipline, which she learned way back in the 80’s, when she was an Olympic athlete. She was a member of the USA’s women’s skating team. She recounted her experience while living at the Olympic Village. This lovely, outgoing lady also teaches art and design at Richland College.
Felicia Dunnican is the mother of a toddler, and babysitting issues are also a consideration as the two women try to figure out just how many days and hours they can devote to their store. Right now they are open four days a week, from Wednesday through Saturday, though they intend to change that schedule as business dictates. If you happen to be in the area, stop in and say hello, you’ll enjoy the ambience and some really fun browsing.
