GARLAND CIVIC THEATRE ANNOUNCES ITS 2015-2016 SEASON
Garland, Texas, March 16, 2015 — The Garland Civic Theatre Artistic Director, Kyle McClaran, invites you to a pleasure packed 2015-2016 Season. He says, “I hope you will join us for a spectacular line up of fun and entertainment. We strive to bring you the finest, high quality productions possible, and we appreciate your being with us as we light up the stage with fun, laughter, and magic.”
The first production will be a staging of “Into the Woods”, the musical with book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless yet relevant piece and rare modern classic. The production will run Fridays and Saturdays, July 24 – August 15, 2015 with Sunday performances on July 26 and August 2. There is a Thursday performance on July 23, 2015.
September 3 – 26, 2015 will bring Agatha Christie’s “Spider’s Web”. Clarissa, the second wife of Henry Hailsham Brown, is adept at spinning tales of adventure for their bored diplomatic circle. When a murder takes place in her drawing room, she finds live drama much harder with which to cope. Next on the schedule is a brightly satiric comedy, “Mrs. California”, by Doris Baizley. It pokes wicked good fun at the pretentious hokum of a hotly contested homemakers’ competition. This production will run Fridays and Saturdays, October 16 – November 7, 2015 with Sunday performances on October 18 and 25. There is a Thursday performance on October 15, 2015.
“Clue The Musical” with music by Galen Blum, Wayne Barker, and Vinnie Martucci, lyrics by Tom Chiodo, and book by Peter DePietro is next. The popular board game is now a rousing, fun-filled musical that brings the world’s best-known murder suspects to life and invites the audience to play along to solve the mystery of who killed Mr. Boddy, in what room and with whatweapon. Performances are scheduled for November 27 – December 19, 2015. The production will run Fridays and Saturdays, November 27 – December 19, 2015 with Sunday performances on November 29 and December 6. There is a Thursday performance on December 3, 2015.
Following that will be a production of a hard-boiled mystery, “The Man With Bogart’s Face”, by Andrew J. Fenady. There’s a plot full of twists and turns, intrigue, greed and deadly danger. This play has its heart rooted in the heritage of good old movies. The production will run Fridays and Saturdays, January 22 – February 13, 2016 with Sunday performances on January 24 and 31. There is a Thursday performance on January 21, 2016.
March 3 – March 26, 2016 will bring a true minute by minute laugh riot, “Fools”, by Neil Simon. It tells the story of Leon Tolchinsky who has a teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. The town has been cursed with chronic stupidity for 200 years. His job is to break the curse, but he only has 24 hours to do so or he will also be cursed.
