Garland Symphony Orchestra Continues
“Symphonic Treasures!” with Cellist Kalin Ivanov On November 20
Garland, Texas, October 21, 2015 — The Garland Symphony Orchestra’s Concert II of the 2015-2016 “Symphonic Treasures!” Season features cellist Kalin Ivanov, performing Sowash’s Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in A Major on November 20, 8:00 p.m. at the Granville Arts Center in Downtown Garland, TX.
A native of Bulgaria, Kalin began studying cello at the age of six with his father. Mr. Ivanov holds a Master of Music degree from Brooklyn College Conservatory, where he studied cello with Marion Feldman. He has participated in master classes given by distinguished cellists such as: David Soyer, Nathaniel Rosen, Steven Doane, Laurence Lesser, Anatoli Krastev and others. In 1999, Mr. Ivanov won the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival Concerto Competition. Ivanov’s young career of charismatic performances led him from the concert halls of Bulgaria to Greece, Austria, Switzerland, France, England, Russia, Czech Republic and the United States, including recent appearances as a soloist with Plovdiv Philharmonic, Bulgarian Virtuosi Orchestra, Pazardjik Symphony, Moscow Chamber Orchestra “Cantus Firmus,” Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, Academy Chamber Orchestra, Manhattan Virtuosi Orchestra, and Ensemble Du Monde Orchestra, among others. Mr. Ivanov is a founding member of The Forte String Quartet, New York Classic Trio, New York Empire Trio, Duo “BG,” and Bulgarian Piano Quartet. He is a recipient of the Chancellor’s Award and Cultural Achievement Award for teaching and performing in the U.S., as well as a career development grant by the Artist Fund of the New York Foundation for the Arts.
In addition to Mr. Ivanov’s solo performances, the GSO will also feature Mozart’s Overture to Cozi Fan Tutti, Wolf-Ferrari’s Intermezzo No. 2 from The Jewels of the Madonna, Haydn’s Symphony No. 86 in D Major, and selections from Paderewski’s Tatra Album.
The GSO will also be joined by guest conductor Maciej Zoltowski. Maestro Zoltowski collaborates with many Polish philharmonic orchestras including the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio (Katowice), the Polish Radio Orchestra (Warsaw), the Polish Orchestra Jeunesses Musicales and the Beethoven Academy Orchestra. Maciej Zoltowski studied violin at the F. Chopin and J. Elsner Music Schools in Warsaw. Having earned his diploma in violin performance with distinction, he continued his studies at the F. Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, where he graduated in 1996 in Composition, and graduated in 1997 in Conducting Faculty, obtaining both M.A. diplomas with awards. His teachers at the academy included Prof. Marian Borkowski and Prof. Ryszard Dudek.

Maestro Austin’s background encompasses over 30 years of professional music experience, and includes degrees from MIT, Cambridge University, and Stanford University. Bulgaria, Ecuador, Colombia, Philippines, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and the United States.
