March Update
During the last 3 weeks of February there was a 4.5 ton jade Buddha on display at the Buddhist Temple located at 210 Katy Street in Garland. Created in Canada, the Buddha of International Peace is traveling around the world and will eventually reach its permanent home in Vietnam.
Snow!
The month of March began with snow and temperatures cold enough to keep the white stuff around long enough to build snowmen! The precipitation eventually took the form of much needed rain, bringing lake water levels up, but not enough to get us out of the Stage 3 Water Restrictions before June, according to the North Texas Municipal Water
District.
Rowlett Annexes Robertson Park
The Rowlett City Council approved the purchase of Robertson Park from the City of Dallas at their March 17 meeting. The park is located just off the Dalrock exit of I-30, and is adjacent to Bay View marina. The land is sited for development similar to that across the lake in Rockwall.
Romance in Downtown Garland
It’s not unusual to see wedding parties coming and going on Saturdays in downtown Garland since the Poetry Place event venue opened last year, but it was very surprising to see a bridal party standing on the sidewalk outside the Generator Coffee House on a Sunday afternoon! The bride and her attendants were waiting ouside for their cue to open the door and walk down the aisle. Congratulations to the newlyweds, Josh and Aubrey Roper.
New Discount Food store Under Construction
There’s a new Winco discount grocery store now under construction at 1122 Centerville, on the former Target property. We drove to the rear of the property to get some photos of the work in progress. We were told that construction is scheduled for completion by winter. Winco stores are big box operations similar to Cosco, with a lower price point.
