Openings & Closings
Opening:
A new location for Five Below, a “teen oriented” store will open at Firewheel Mall in 2021. It will be located across from Barnes & Noble, in the former Pier 1 space. We have been told that the inventory will be largely priced at $5 and below, but there will also be higher priced items being sold well below their SRP. Their marketing strategy suggests that while parents may be staying at home and shopping online, the teens are out and about, and visiting the malls. This 1,000 store chain is opening everywhere, while so many other retailers are closing.
Closing:
Downtown Garland is about to lose its only ladies’ fashion boutique, Wild Grace. Its owner, Melissa Benge, announced that she hopes to have vacated the storefront location at 700 Main Street by the end of February. Wild Grace will continue to operate as an online store, with less of an emphasis on apparel, and more on design and decor. Benge also will be keeping her pop up store in an antique mall in Waxahachie. The double storefront on the corner of Seventh and Main, just one block off the downtown square, will become available for lease.
