Sunday Surprise
Last Sunday we visited the downtown square and were amazed at the number of vehicles parked around the square. Music could be heard playing from inside, so we wandered over to the Intrinsic Brew Pub and Barbecue to check it out. We learned that a wedding would be taking place in the roofless space next door, at 507 State Street, at 4 pm. Cary Hodson, owner of the brew pub, told us his sister, Hailey Rose Hodson, would be tying the knot with Keith Packman, and that she would be playing a harp and he a tuba as part of the ceremony. District 2 Councilwoman, Anita Goebel, Pat Olson and myself decided to hang around and watch the event unfold. The space left by the burned out building was quite charming
when Sherley Tulles, owner of the Rowlett Florist decked the space out with her floral arrangements. Believe it or not, the harp and tuba blended nicely in an arrangement created by the two music masters who were to exit 507 shortly thereafter as husband and wife. It was surprising to see our bearded brewers attired in suits and ties for this very special occasion.
We asked Cary if and when he planned to shave his beard and he replied: “Never trust a skinny chef or a brewer without a beard.”
