Update on Plaza Broadway in South Garland

The renovation and re-purposing of the former K Mart at Broadway and Centerville has been in the works for a year and a half. Developer Carlos Quintanilla has converted the decaying, empty building to a mall with 100 plus stores. The spaces are all enclosed and now await individual Certificates of Occupancy before they will be allowed to open for business. Quintanilla mentioned, in a recent meeting, that the plumbing for the building must also be completed before opening.  Quintanilla recently made an unsuccessful bid for Congress and serves as a spokesperson for many in the Hispanic community.  He was also instrumental in the building of the Garibaldi Bazaar on Buckner near I 30. Quintanilla tells us he learned many lessons from that venture that he has incorporated in this upscale marketplace. He hopes to have this Plaza Broadway open for business before Christmas, but from all appearances  that goal does not seem achievable.
