Around Town December 10

Christmas on the Garland SquareRoberts Place2

The Christmas on the Square event in Downtown Garland on December 4 was a bit different this year, with what appeared to be a larger crowd than in previous years. Those of us who attended the event without children in our care found a haven at 507 State Street. There we found great music, complimentary snacks and chairs to relax in.

New Holiday Inn & Suites

THotelhe long awaited opening of the Holiday Inn and Suites at Harbor Point in Garland will officially take place on December 17 with a ribbon cutting by the Garland Chamber of Commerce. The new hotel on Bass Pro Drive was originally scheduled to open last July. The new hotel has 98 rooms and suites catering to the business traveler, with Wi-Fi available throughout. There’s a great breakfast bar in the attractively appointed lobby. No kitchen, but the neighboring restaurants are happy to cater events.

Firefighters ContributionsCaldwell2

“Tis the season for giving and there are many opportunities to donate to myriad charities. The Garland Firefighters Association did a great job of stepping up to make Christmas merrier for underprivileged boys and  girls with a Christmas shopping spree and their Coats for Kids program
