Cape Nerd Comics celebrated their Grand Opening on May 13 and 14 at 606 Main Street in Historic Downtown Garland. Hundreds of comic books, both newly published and vintage, line the shelves of the little store. Owner Liz Newman suggested we visit their website to to get the schedules for reading club gatherings and other family fun activities.

New arrivals hit the shelves every Tuesday  and are made ready for pick up by subscribers. Newman told us the average age of her customers is between 25 and 40. The average cost of a single publication is $4.50. We were surprised to learn that among the superheroes and vintage Archies were Angry Birds and Sponge Bob comics filling the colorful pages stories aimed at preschool aged kids.

In addition to those shelves lined with comic books, there’s also a bat cave and an assortment of toy superheroes for sale. With the current popularity of Comic con and big screen adaptations of Marvel superhero sagas, this shop is tapping into what appears to be a hot market.
