Fire Destroys Eastern Hill Clubhouse
Sometime around 2 am on March 13, flames were seen shooting through the roof of the clubhouse of the abandoned Eastern Hills Country Club. The 2 story structure had been sitting vacant for 3 years and was frequently broken into by vagrants and vandals. The 178 acre property with an 18 hole golf course, swimming and tennis facilities, also at one time had an active marina on the corner bordering Lake Ray Hubbard.
The entire Country Club has been in limbo since it was sold at auction by the Bankruptcy Court in 2014.
As we toured the grounds, now overgrown inhabited by wildlife, we encountered a gentleman who had been a member of the club since 1954. He had been hoping that the club and golf course would be revised. The club had served as a home away from home for many of us, golfers and non-golfers alike.
There seems to be no plans to rebuild or repurpose this beautiful property at this time. Owner Victor Ballas, a billionaire real estate investor, has not been available for comment. At this time the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
