Rowlett’s Main Street is …

There was an outdoor market on the green in front of the Village of Rowlett on Saturday afternoon. The Village of Rowlett, an apartment complex with hundreds of rental units in various forms and sizes, now has the Rowlett Public Library functioning with their entrance on Main Street. Adjacent to the library at the corner of the property is The Book Club Cafe. The cafe, which opens for breakfast at 6 am during the week, and 8 am on weekends, has dog friendly outdoor seating on Main Street.  The cafe serves breakfast, brunch and lunch daily, closing at 5 pm weekdays. Residents of The Village can enjoy breakfast before climbing aboard a DART train to work, with the station being located just a short walk across Main Street. There’s also a coffee shop across the street, at 3837 Main Street. The Modern Well Coffee Shop has an assortment of snacks, coffees and teas. We spoke with Karley, who boasted that this little coffee shop focused on quality, while places like Starbucks focus on quantity. It’s a cozy little spot, with a large outdoor patio in the rear. There will be entertainment in the form of live music on the patio on October 19th. This stop for morning commuters is open at 7 am.

Lexie’s is a smart, new boutique that opened a few months ago and caters to the millennial market. We spoke with Lexie’s sister Jackie, a very attractive lady who fit the shop’s decor in her black and white outfit. The store’s modern decor is sleek and chic. Jackie informed us that Lexie’s has an online store, and shows new arrivals on Instagram everyday. We noticed lots of jeans and tops on display. Jackie also told us about the Mexican restaurant that is getting ready to open next door. We wondered if that restaurant may be owned by the family who ran El Centro, the Tex-Mex Restaurant that burned a couple of years ago.

Back across Main is what was once the old firehouse and is now The Bankhead Brewing Company. Beside making craft beers, they are also known for some great food. Their pizza creations are very good and very popular. We were there in time to order from their Saturday/Sunday Brunch Menu, and enjoyed their Captain Crunch French Toast. It was served with bacon, maple syrup, strawberries and whipped cream. Definitely a great selection. As far as meal options go, this is the only place serving dinner right now on Main Street, but there will soon be another with the opening of the Mexican restaurant. The Bankhead also has an outdoor dining area that is enclosed from the elements and dog friendly. There’s full bar service, a good wine selection and live music on weekends. What’s not to like?

The Girlfriends Boutique occupies an old house and carries women’s clothing and gift items. They have been located on Main Street for several years. There is also a cigar shop, and that will be the end of the retail and dining options on Rowlett’s Main Street for now. Can’t wait to see what opens up  at the corner on the street level of The Village of Rowlett. We will be waiting and watching as main Street continues to grow and develop.
