Santa Arrived…Christmas on the Square

On Thursday, December 1, Santa arrived and settled in his throne to welcome the hundreds of children who lined up for photos and a visit with the bearded man in red velvet suit. It was great to see Santa back in the square, as he was hidden around the corner last year. Another improvement in this annual event was the fireworks display that was fired off from a rooftop, making the activities in the square visible from Sixth Street. Now someone should convince the City of Garland, owners of GP&L, to turn on some light in and around the empty building, so that \children and their parents can maneuver safely around the east side of the square. It was a great event, and the snow slide and ice carvers really created the winter atmosphere that put all of us in a holiday mood.

Long lines of patrons formed inside the Generator Coffee House, willing to wait patiently for something to warm them up. Even longer lines formed in front of the kettle corn vendor, and the funnel cakes were hot items, too.  By 9  O‘clock vendors were packing up and families were heading for home. Not so, however, for the adults who lingered before TV monitors watching the Dallas Cowboys in the State Street Pub and the Fish and Tails Restaurant. The tree lighting, Santa’s arrival, fireworks and a Cowboy victory.  Now that’s a perfect evening!
