Scavenge Rowlett Tornado Fundraiser‏

Scavenge RowlettScavenge Rowlett is a fun-filled, exciting city-wide scavenger hunt that will get our players outside, get them active and give them an awesome way to help friends and neighbors that were affected by the December 26 tornado.
The event headquarters and starting point will be at First United Methodist Church,4405 Main Street, Rowlett, TX 75088 on June 11 from 2-6pm.
It’s a scavenger hunt played with a mobile app and on foot. Missions appear on the mobile app that give clues as to what players are to do to satisfy the requirements of the mission, usually ending with a photo. It may involve hugging a fire hydrant, finding a police officer and getting him to take a photo with you, or solving a difficult puzzle only to find that you just need to send a picture of your left hand.

Scavenge Rowlett is the next in a series of fundraisers by Steve Walker of the non-profit corporation Rowlett Strong, Inc. Our last fundraiser was the highly successful Rebuild Rowlett 5K.

Our Scavenge events are intended to be a series that will occur quarterly or semi-annually in Rowlett, Garland, Wylie and other areas most affected by recent storms. Other areas nearby will also get Scavenge events so they can help their neighbors rebuild from the devastation.

We are using a mobile app developed by a McKinney company to help us conduct our hunts. The company is called Munzee (a very popular mobile game) and the scavenger hunt app is called EventZee.

We need the media’s help to get the word out about ticket sales. If you’d like to to a news package about Scavenge Rowlett, we’d be happy to oblige. If you wouldn’t mind passing this on to your community calendar/public affairs department, that would be awesome as well! We’d like your listeners and viewers from all over the D/FW Metroplex to know how to get tickets because helping Rebuild Rowlett isn’t just for Rowlett. It’s for all North Texans.

Tickets available at scavengerowlett.eventbrite.com. Our event website is www.scavengentx.com. Ticket site is linked from our event website so no need to use both.

The December tornado left a long-term effect on Rowlett and other affected areas. Fundraising cannot stop until all residents are back in their homes where they belong.

After expenses, all proceeds from Scavenge Rowlett go to the Rebuild Rowlett long-term recovery fund, operated by the Rowlett Chamber Foundation.
