July is Park and Recreation Month
Garland celebrates National Park & Recreation Month this July. The parks and recreation facilities run by the City of Garland offer ample opportunities for residents to Get Out & Play!
Nearly three in 10 U.S. adults do not spend time outside on a daily basis and of those who do, almost half spend less than 30 minutes in the fresh air, according to a survey released by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). That’s why this July, the City of Garland and NRPA are challenging everyone to get out and visit their community parks and recreation centers during National Park & Recreation Month.
To encourage everyone in Garland to Get Out & Play, the following free events are being offered this July to celebrate Park & Recreation Month:
Family Night Out: Food, Fun, and Fireworks!
6 p.m., Saturday, July 30 at Central Park (1310 W. Avenue F)

Join us as we close out our Parks and Recreation Month celebration with a bang! Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy local food trucks, children’s entertainment, bounce houses, games, and the best party music to rock out to with entertainment from Downtown Fever. Fireworks will conclude the evening at dark.
• 6 p.m. Event opens to the public with food trucks, games, and kid’s activities
• 8 p.m. Downtown Fever take the stage – MOTION. MUSIC. ENERGY.
• 9:30 p.m. Fireworks

Twilight Fun Run and Swim Party
7 p.m., July 15 at Surf and Swim (440 W. Oates Rd.)
Join us for a Twilight Fun Run and Swim Party to benefit #GARLANDSTRONG foundation.

- All participants will receive a race t-shirt and free In-n-Out burger meal. Pre-register by July 5 to guarantee your shirt size.
- After the race Surf and Swim will be open for an exclusive swim party till 9:30 P.M.
- Don’t want to run the 5k? Buy a ticket for the swim party and receive a free In-n-Out burger meal.
- Dress as your favorite superhero and win a prize for best individual and group costumes.
Surfin’ Safari
10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., July 20 at Surf and Swim (440 W. Oates Rd.)
Join us for a Surfin’ Safari and meet animals from the Dallas Zoo’s Animal Adventure Outreach Program during two presentations. This is valid with regular park admission.
