Discover a Gem in Sazón

Sazón, a precious gem of a restaurant, opened just a few months ago in a very obscure location. This restaurant is located in a strip mall that once housed a vocational training center at the intersection of Kingsley and Shiloh, an industrial area of Garland. Sazón Mexican Home Cooking is, in my estimation, anything but typical home cooking. The owner opened his own catering business after working as a chef for the Dallas Petroleum Club for 20 years. That business thrived in a space at Valley View Mall until the entire mall was scheduled for demolition. Raphael then moved into the space on Kingsley, and decided he’d try his hand at a restaurant in addition to maintaining his catering business.

Everything served at Sazón is prepared from scratch, and it is served with a flare for presentation. The food is outstanding and the prices are modest.

Though they do start you out with tortilla chips and salsa, this is not a TexMex restaurant. It is a place that serves fish, steaks, chicken and other menu items with a Mexican touch. My personal dining experiences have resulted in a mouth watering serving of bass encrusted with coconut and finished with a mango drizzle; a sirloin steak that my  dinner mate said was “the best he had ever eaten”, the Chicken Sazón, that we had been told not to miss, also surpassed expectations. The desserts are also made on the premises and include cheesecake, creme brulée, Italian Cream Cake, tres Leches Cake, and several other items that are also as expertly presented and served as the meals themselves.  If you’re willing to travel a little bit out of your way for an excellent dining experience, pack up your favorite  beverage and head on over to Sazón. When it comes to alcoholic beverages, this place is strictly BYOB.

Sazon Also serves a Sunday Brunch Buffet, which we are told is another outstanding experience to be had in this wonderful restaurant, and is only $13 per person for all you can eat food and beverages. It is served only on Sundays, from 9 am until 3 pm. Closed Mondays..
